An awareness programme on Poshan Maah was organised on October 17 at St. Xavier Church, Jubilee Hall, Jalukie, Peren district by the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) in collaboration with the Zeliangrong Mipui Organization (ZMO), with support from the National Commission for Women (NCW). The event aimed to promote awareness on nutrition and encourage collective efforts towards building a healthier and informed society through POSHAN initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, NSCW chairperson W. Nginyeih Konyak highlighted the Commission’s role in safeguarding women’s rights and welfare across Nagaland. She emphasized the significance of Poshan Maah as a month-long campaign focused on promoting healthy nutrition and balanced dietary habits among women. She also urged women to speak out against violence and exercise their rights confidently, while encouraging the public to utilize the Free Legal Aid Cell provided by the Commission.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, spoke on the importance of Poshan Abhiyaan and shared success stories of Anganwadi workers from Tening and Nsong centres. He commended their efforts in spreading awareness through house visits, storytelling and nutri-garden initiatives. Meru also stressed the importance of men’s participation and community involvement in development, stating that effective use of government schemes is a shared responsibility. He further highlighted the national vision of “Viksit Bharat” and the state’s commitment to becoming a developed region by 2047.
The technical session featured deliberations on key topics: Teacher PM SHRI, GMS Peren Town, Reguizeule Ndang, spoke on “Early Childhood Care and Education.” CDPO Social Welfare Jalukie, R. Chirhotshu Nyusou, addressed “Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices.” Central Administrator, Sakhi-One Stop Centre Peren, Asuni, spoke on “Legal Rights” and outlined the Centre’s initiatives.
The programme was chaired by NSCW member Akokla Longchar, with an introductory note delivered by president of ZMO, Apeuna Iheilung.
