Awareness on prospect of spices production

Day-long awareness programme on prospect of spices production was conducted on December 11 and 13, at Renthan village, Wokha district and Beisumpuikam village, Peren district for the livelihood improvement of NITI Aayog identified aspirant villages. 

In a press release, nodal officer, Dr. C.S. Maiti (AICRP on Spices) stated that the resource person, department of horticulture, assistant professor, Dr. Graceli I Yepthomi, encouraged the farmers to grow spices since it was not given much importance and also remunerative besides having many health benefits and potentiality. 

She also explained on how to grow vegetables and spices together organically and the storage methods of seeds for the next season after which inputs like spices and vegetable seeds, portrays and sprayers were distributed to the beneficiaries of those aspirant villages. During the programme, the farmers shared the problems to which the resource person provided helpful suggestions and assured them to provide more farm inputs to increase their production and profits in the coming days. 

The training was aimed at imparting technical know-how on spices and horticulture production to improve livelihood of poor families by generating extra income and enriching resources. Altogether 10 selected families of each aspirant village participated in the training-cum-input distribution programme.
