Awareness on solar mission in Dimapur

Department of Power, conducted a sensitization program on the Nagaland Solar Mission (NSM) at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, in convergence with the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG:MBY) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
The event aimed to raise public awareness and encourage participation in adopting solar energy as a sustainable and cost-effective power alternative. Speaking at the program, Chief Secretary, Dr. J. Alam, described Dimapur as a “Mini Nagaland,” stating, “Once Dimapur understands, the whole of Nagaland will understand.” He urged eligible households to register and take advantage of the scheme’s substantial subsidies.
Launched on April 14, the Nagaland Solar Mission aligns with the central government’s rooftop solar initiative and seeks to facilitate residential rooftop solar installations.
Benefits under the scheme include substantial subsidies, free smart prepaid meters, and access to hassle-free bank loans for households. The program aims to reduce electricity bills while promoting environmental sustainability and energy self-reliance.
Additional Chief Engineer (Design & Regulation), Er. R. Lobosang Jamir, presented the mission’s framework, technical details, and financial benefits.
He emphasized the mission’s phased rollout, starting in Dimapur, and its integration with the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Er. Jamir underscored the convergence of state efforts with the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, reiterating that the scheme offers an inclusive energy solution. Participants were guided on the registration process via the portal www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
The session featured vendor and consumer experience-sharing, followed by an interactive discussion addressing public queries on registration, cost, and installation.
The event was chaired by Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, who highlighted the importance of community engagement in adopting clean energy solutions.
Following the program, Dr. J. Alam conducted site visits to review development projects related to the solar mission, including the State Institute of Hotel Management in Purana Bazaar B and the Common Facility Centre at Toluvi, accompanied by deputy secretary to the chief secretary, Er. Namang Sepong Chang.
