Awareness on substance abuse in Wokha, Mokokchung

One day awareness seminars on “addressing substance abuse” was organised by the department of social welfare on November 9 at Wokha and Mokokchung districts.


The seminar targeted various childcare institutions, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), and stakeholders in Wokha district. Participants included members of the Child Welfare Committee, the Juvenile Justice Board, and staff from Child Care Institutions. At the programme, ARK Foundation director, Ketho Angami delivered an elaborate talk on understanding addiction. He covered aspects of the prevention and management of substance abuse, providing valuable insights into tackling this prevalent issue.


Shanchobeni from ARK Foundation complemented the seminar by shedding light on the nature and types of substance abuse counselling specifically within a Child Care Institution (CCI) setup.


Mokokchung: The seminar in Mokokchung brought together key stakeholders, including the Child Care Institutions (CCI), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee, JJB and SJPU of Mokokchung district.


At the programme, People’s College Mokokchung principal, Dr. T Amongla delivered an enlightening presentation on the identification and mitigation of substance abuse.
The District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Samuel Kapu emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing substance abuse within the community.


Adding to the discourse, a brief but impactful speech was delivered by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC),Chumlamo Hamtsoe highlighting the shared responsibility in combating substance abuse and fostering a healthier, safer environment for Mokokchung district.
