
In commemoration of the 16 days of activism against gender based violence, awareness campaign was organised by Fazl Ali College (FAC) on December 10. To mark the occasion, an inter-collegiate story narration competition was organized by the college under the ambit of the Nagaland State Commission for Women on the theme “Orange the world: Generation Equality stands against Rape”.
Altogether nine participants from Jubilee memorial College, People’s College and Fazl Ali College participated. All the participants narrated one story each from the following themes: Rape, Domestic Violence, Eve Teasing,Tradition and Gender Equality, Harassment in the workplace, Economic discrimination, Emotional abuse and Negative representation of women in media.
Renthungo Odyuo from fazl Ali College bagged the first prize and received a cash of Rs. 3000 and certificate.
Limayanger of Jubilee Memorial College won the second prize and the third prize went to Abinah Jamir of Fazl Ali College. They received Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 along with a certificate.
The programme was chaired by Maongienla, Asst. Prof. department of English, who also delivered keynote address stating that gender was not an accomplishment but an ascribed status- something which was beyond a person’s control.
The programme kicked off with a play by Drama Club, FAC followed by welcome address by principal of the College, T. Allong Tzudir. A video on various perspectives by students as well as teachers on the theme, “Gender Equality and Violence against Women”, compiled by Talikaba of B.A 6th semester was screened after the competition.
