Awareness on women’s safety in Mon and Niuland

District Administration Mon and District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Mission Shakti, and District Administration Niuland in collaboration with DHEW under the Sankalp initiative, organised separate awareness programmes on women’s safety at the workplace on September 6.
In Mon, an awareness-cum-training programme was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, where resource persons Helen P., Panel Lawyer, and Angun Konyak, Retainer Lawyer, addressed the gathering on legal frameworks protecting women from abuse and exploitation.
Helen P. spoke on the Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, highlighting the prevalence of human trafficking in Nagaland. She cited examples such as the domestic helper trap, false job and education promises, and vulnerabilities linked to the glamour industry and border areas. She emphasized the Act’s provisions securing women’s right to reside in a household and protection against various forms of abuse. She urged participants to become advocates of the law and educate their communities.
Angun Konyak spoke on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and the SHE Box portal, explaining mechanisms for workplace harassment redressal. She also briefed the gathering on the role of Lok Adalats.
Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, M. Moba, spoke on the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the implementation of poverty alleviation schemes. The programme was chaired by Simon L. Konyak, DEO, PMMVY.
Meanwhile, in Niuland, an awareness session was held at the DC Conference Hall as part of the 10-day Sankalp campaign. Resource person EAC Kelengunuo Solo delivered an informative address, highlighting the importance of dignity and safety for women at the workplace.
She elaborated on the POSH Act, 2013, and introduced the SHE Box portal, educating attendees on their rights and available redressal mechanisms. The session aimed to empower women to identify and respond to workplace harassment while fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect.
District Administration Niuland and DHEW reiterated their commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and safety through sustained initiatives.
