An awareness programme on forest and wild life conservation was held at Divisional Forest Office (DFO) Tuensang on April 3 with Conservator of Forests, Northern Territorial Circle (NTC), Divisional Forest Officer Tuensang and Divisional Forest Officer, Longleng, Y .M Jami (IFS) as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Jami said that every creature in this universe was created with a specific purpose and human beings were created as guardians to care for the creatures and not to harm them.
DFO Longleng, Beizo Suokhrie, in his speech, reminded the listeners of God’s blessed natural resources and how to enjoy their benefits while maintaining a healthy life.
Dr. C. Zupeni Tsanglao (IFS) DFO Tuensang delivered the welcome address and urged the gathering to conserve available natural resources by utilising them in ways that could help sustain the sources of these natural resources.
She also explained both the importance of wildlife for maintaining the ecological balance and the provisions of the Wildlife Act of 1972.
Litem village Council Chairman, H. Chang narrated the success story of the Sambhar Deer’s preservation within their reserve forest. He encouraged the other villages to take up similar efforts.
The program was chaired by Range Officer Tuensang, L. Tsingthrise Sangtam and the vote of thanks was proposed by Range Officer, Florence Sangtam.
Village councils from different villages under Tuensang division participated in the programme along with the department’s staff. The programme began after a tree sapling was planted by the chief guest.
