
An awareness programme on food safety and quality control with special emphasis on meat products was organised by Mokokchung municipal council (MMC) in coordination with food safety branch, chief medical officer office, Mokokchung on March 3, 2021 at MMC conference hall, Mokokchung.
A press release by district programme management unit, NRHM, Mokokchung stated that chairman of the programme, ADC & administrator, MMC, Shashank Pratap Singh remarked that it was necessary for meat stalls to maintain hygiene as well as life stock certification, which was mandatory as consumption of meat was essential in every household.
Designated officer, food safety, Mokokchung, Merenlemba Ao also discussed the concerns with regard to food safety and quality control with special focus on meat products.
He stressed on location and size of meat shops, equipments and accessories, transportation, pest control and personnel hygiene, sanitary practices and other requirements.
Meanwhile, CVO, Mokokchung, Dr. BM Sunep delivered a short briefing on the importance of hygienic meat and implementing agency, MMC Abattoir, Lanu Tsuknung made comments on the matter. The participants included butchers and meat stall runners, AWUM office bearers, all managing board members (MMC abattoir), village council chairman and one member each from Mokokchung, Ungma, Chuchuyimpang and Khensa.
The programme concluded with an open house discussion, followed by a camp for onsite registration and licensing.
