Awareness Programme on Child Marriage, POCSO Act

DIMAPUR: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Zunheboto under Mission Vatsalya, Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland organized a one-day Awareness and Sensitization Programme on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Legal Adoption at Lazami Baptist Church on May 7, 2026.
The programme aimed at creating awareness on child protection laws and promoting the safety, welfare and rights of children within the community. During the programme, Ruzonuo Rita Aye, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Zunheboto sensitized the participants on the provisions and penalties under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. She also highlighted the salient features of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, including its reporting mechanisms, and elaborated on the legal adoption process under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by women pastor, Lazami Baptist Church Heili.
