Awareness programme on PMFBY in Kohima

DIMAPUR

An awareness programme on the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was held on July 17 at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima, for District Agriculture Officers (DAOs) and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officers (SDAOs).
The programme aimed to sensitize field officers on the importance of crop insurance and initiate the implementation of PMFBY for select major crops in the state.
In his inaugural address, additional director of Agriculture, Medovilie Ladu, highlighted the need for crop insurance to protect farmers from losses due to natural calamities.
He said that with agriculture becoming increasingly vulnerable to climate change, adopting risk mitigation tools like PMFBY is essential.
He urged officers to raise awareness among farmers and ensure timely enrolment.
Idol Chakma, administrative officer from Agriculture Insurance Company of India Ltd. (AIC), served as the resource person and gave a detailed presentation on the scheme’s objectives, guidelines, benefits, and enrolment procedures.
He also addressed queries related to implementation challenges and shared best practices from other states.
The programme concluded with a call for coordinated efforts among field officers, banks, and the implementing agency to ensure successful rollout of PMFBY in Nagaland.
