The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP), Wokha, in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organization and the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WDCCI), organized an awareness programme on September 23 at VDB Hall, Wokha Town. The event was held under the theme “Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection: The Journey Towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”
According to a DIPR report, delivering the keynote address, Assistant Controller LMCP Wokha, T. Aimong, emphasized that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 extends beyond infrastructure and technology to include ethical and economic growth rooted in fairness, accountability and trust. He urged traders to uphold legal standards and adopt responsible business practices, noting that the business community plays a vital role in national development.
General Secretary of the WDCCI, Renthungo Mozhui, expressed appreciation for the initiative and encouraged traders to remain informed about government regulations and manage their businesses responsibly.
Inspector Silo Jemu of LMCP Wokha delivered a detailed presentation on the Legal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodities Rules. He highlighted the importance of accurate weights and measures, product authenticity, and compliance with labelling norms such as manufacturing and expiry dates, net quantity, and penalties for violations.
President of the WDCCI, Vungathung C Murry, also addressed the gathering, commending the department’s efforts and advocating for continued collaboration between stakeholders.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, allowing traders and businessmen to engage in open dialogue, clarify doubts, and share experiences.
