DIMAPUR: Axis Bank inaugurated its new branch at Chunlikha under Tseminyu district, marking a significant step towards expanding banking access in the unbanked block.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, thanked Axis Bank for opening the branch following directives from the Department of Financial Services (DFS) and the State Government. He said the new branch would enable residents of Chunlikha Block to access various banking services, including savings accounts, digital banking, loan facilities and government schemes such as CMMFI and PMEGP.
The DC stressed the importance of financial independence and urged the public to work closely with the District Administration, Village Council and the bank to make effective use of the available facilities.
Highlighting the role of banks in economic development, Woch said financial institutions play a vital role in uplifting the district by providing loans to entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), students and individuals. He assured all possible support from the district administration for the smooth functioning of the new branch and urged the public to extend cooperation to Axis Bank.
Vice president and cluster head, Axis Bank Dimapur Cluster, Poujaulung, informed that the Chunlikha branch was opened as part of the initiative to provide banking facilities in unbanked blocks. He stated that Axis Bank currently operates 18 branches and 25 ATMs across eight districts of Nagaland.
He said the Chunlikha branch is a full-fledged branch equipped to provide complete banking services and promote financial literacy among the people of Chunlikha Block under Tseminyu district. He also expressed gratitude to the DFS, State Government, RBI Kohima, SLBC Nagaland, village councils, churches, student unions and other stakeholders for their support.
Chunlikha Village Council VCM Zukeya Woch spoke about the history behind the establishment of the branch under the initiative of DFS and the State Government. He thanked Axis Bank for fulfilling the long-standing aspiration of the people and assured support for the growth and sustainability of the branch.
The programme was compered by Sales Executive, Axis Bank Wokha Branch, Ekonbeni Ovung, who also delivered the welcome address. The invocation prayer was offered by assistant pastor Kithagha Union Baptist Church Nyikeya Tep, while Nungshinaro Jamir, RO personal loan, Axis Bank Kohima, presented a special song. Ashale Thong spoke on behalf of the landlord, while Neiketoulie Norbert, Branch Head of Axis Bank Chunlikha Branch, delivered the vote of thanks.
