AYO, NAYO, NAYSA flay raid by 1st Assam Rifles

Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and Northern Angami Youth & Sports Association (NAYSA) Group-C have vehemently condemned the raid carried out by the 1st Assam Rifles at the private residence of Roko Angami in the wee hours of October 30.

AYO: Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) president Kekhrie Pfukha and general secretary Petevituo Nakhro said “Through this act, their niche for troublemaking has yet again been displayed in full, and is left for the public to judge.”

Besides being an active social worker, Angami Youth Organisation said Roko Angami of Zhadima village was a much respected, honest and law-abiding member of the Angami community, who had also represented the community and the Nagas as a professional footballer even at the international level. He was also the incumbent president of the Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) and had also served the auditor general of the AYO.

His credentials are proof of his exceptional citizenry, it added.

Angami Youth Organisation said the ‘raid’ by the 1st Assam Rifles, at a time when Roko Angami was not at his residence in Zhadima, was questionable as to whether it was to allegedly “commit robbery, or was it a malice to personally target the innocent citizen?”

Such appalling act upon a leader of the community has no place in the present day and even controvert the much acclaimed slogan of the Assam Rifles — “Friends of the hill people”, Angami Youth Organisation stated.

Angami Youth Organisation warned that it would not remain a mute spectator to such this insidious behavior of the paramilitary forces, particularly at a time when the protracted Naga political issue was progressing.

Angami Youth Organisation said that the blatant actions of the 1st AR has only reminded the Nagas of the years of tortures, rapes and killings inflicted upon the Nagas by the Indian armed forces, adding that the incident has only deepened the chasm of mistrust and animosity between the Nagas and the Indian armed forces.

Angami Youth Organisation demanded strict action on the erring personnel involved in the incident, and justice to be delivered at the earliest. Failing which, AYO said it would be compelled to take up the matter as is deemed fit, and hold the 1st Assam Rifles responsible for any consequences.

NAYO: Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) has vehemently condemned the “abusive and military Junta style actions of 1st Assam Riffles”.

In a condemnation note, Northern Angami Youth Organisation  vice president Visakhotuo and press secretary Neilie Zumu said that the organisation was “deeply shocked and threatened” by the action of Assam Riffles which had damaged the image and reputation of its president.

It said that act was a “direct insult to Northern Angami Youth Organisation  and the Village Units under it”.

“We are peaceful and law abiding Indian citizens” and “the action of the Assam Riffles clearly violates the rights, life and liberty of the citizens enshrined in the Indian constitution”, NAYO stated.

Northern Angami Youth Organisation  appealed to its village units, human activities, NGOs and all peace-loving citizens to condemn the “military junta style of the Assam Riffles.”

NAYSA: Northern Angami Youth and Sports Association (NAYSA) Group – C condemned the raid by 1st AR at the residence of Roko Angami, former NASA-C president and the current president of Northern Angami Youth and Sports Organisation.

NAYSA-C president Mhasikhotuo Mere and general secretary Thepfulie Theünuo said Roko is a sports icon and a tall youth leader who contributed and still contributes his best and utmost for the welfare of the Nagas.

The motive of the raid was best known to them, which has only led to animosity between the village community and the “friends of the hill people”, it said.

At a time when the Naga society was committed and pursuing all peace and tranquillity, NAYSA-C said such despicable action of the Assam Rifles to target and tarnish the image of a respectable leader, who has contributed much for the nation and still contributing was appalling.

Condemning the action of the Assam Rifles, who are supposed to be the “Friends of the Hill people” and not the “Enemy of the Hill People”, NAYSA-C said it was unhappy by the raid carried out by AR at the residence of its leader.
