Joining the rest of the world, Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) will also be observing World Environment Day on June 5 with a cleanliness and tree plantation drive under the theme “Towards Cleaner and Greener Kohima.” This was announced during a press conference held at the AYO office in Kohima on May 29.
AYO informed that the drive will focus on urban areas, and youths from various colonies within the Kohima municipal jurisdiction will participate in the initiative. According to AYO environment secretary, Kedoroko Casavi, the organisation expects the involvement of around 400 youth volunteers for the event. Casavi further stated that fruit tree saplings will be distributed to all participating colonies, and individual volunteers will also be provided with saplings as part of the green initiative. A short inaugural programme will be held at the AYO office at 10 AM, following which the volunteers will proceed to different locations across the town. The cleanliness drive will cover areas from New Reserve to the High School junction. Casavi also said that AYO has extended invitations to all colony youth organisations and their office bearers under Kohima Municipal Council to take part in the event. It was also informed that Kohima Town MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso will also be part of the programme.
In this regard, AYO president, Kesosul Christopher Ltu has invited members from all the youth bodies from all the different colonies in Kohima to come and be part of the event aimed at a cleaner, greener and a healthier environment for all the citizens.
