Ayurveda Day celebrated across Nagaland

DIMAPUR

The 10th Ayurveda Day was observed across Nagaland on September 23 under the theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet”, highlighting the relevance of Ayurveda in promoting holistic health and environmental sustainability.
In Dimapur, the Integrated AYUSH Hospital (IAH) organised a programme at its premises with Dr. George Thirah, MS, District Hospital Dimapur, as special guest. The event was chaired by Staff Nurse Wedipeu Khalo, with keynote address delivered by Dr. Tiakaba Jamir, MO (Ayurveda), and a short speech by Dr. Sentila Aier, MO (Ayurveda), who emphasized Ayurveda’s holistic approach in addressing lifestyle diseases. The programme concluded with a yoga session and distribution of medicinal plants.
The Regional Ayurveda Research Centre (RARC), Dimapur, under CCRAS, Ministry of Ayush, held its grand finale event at the RARC Conference Hall, marking the culmination of a month-long campaign. Chief Medical Officer Dimapur, Dr. T. Yetovi Tuccu, attended as chief guest, while Rita Singh, president of Patanjali Mahila Samiti (Nagaland), was guest of honour. The event featured a herbal exhibition, patient testimonials, quiz competitions and webinars on Ayurveda’s role in mental health and cancer care.
In Kohima, the Integrated AYUSH Hospital, Razha, Chedema, celebrated the day at TM Government Higher Secondary School. The programme, conducted by Dr. Susangmongla Jamir, MO (Ayurveda), included yoga demonstrations, medicinal plant exhibitions and plantation drives. Medical Superintendent Dr. Khonuo Mary spoke on Ayurveda’s relevance in modern times.
In Mokokchung, a special programme was organised jointly by the Department of AYUSH and Department of Forest and Environment. The event began with a plantation drive featuring medicinal plants such as Mesua ferrea Linn. and Mimusops elengi Linn., followed by a walkathon from IMDH to Police Point. Over 80 participants including nursing students, IMDH staff, Forest Department personnel and AYUSH officials took part. The event also aligned with the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, promoting environmental responsibility and cultural reverence.
At Meluri, a walkathon was organised by Dr. Visinuo Nyusou, MO (Ayush), CHC Meluri, in collaboration with students of Government Higher Secondary School, Meluri, to raise awareness on Ayurveda’s role in sustainable living.
In Noklak, the Integrated AYUSH Hospital hosted a programme chaired by Dr. Hukiye, Resident Medical Officer. Dr. Amongba Lima, MO (Ayurveda), addressed participants on Ayurveda’s contribution to holistic well-being. The event included yoga demonstrations and medicinal plantation drives.
At AHWC Dispensary Chuchuyimpang, Mokokchung, the day was observed with free medical check-ups, distribution of medicines and IEC materials, and plantation of fruit-bearing trees. Dr. Nungshitula Lkr, MO AYUSH, conducted the event and spoke on lifestyle modification and herbal gardening.
In Longleng district, Dr. Visino Nakhro, MO (Ayurveda), CHC Yachem, visited herbal gardens at PBCA Lempong and Yingli College, Longkongkang Campus, and interacted with students on the importance of conserving medicinal plants and promoting Ayurveda-based wellness.
The observance across districts reflected growing public engagement and institutional commitment to Ayurveda as a sustainable healthcare system rooted in traditional knowledge and environmental stewardship.
