Celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, 75th years of Independence, government departments, organisations, education institutes and others organised various events across the state.
LRD Longleng: Commemorating “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the Land Resource Department (LRD) Longleng Saturday set up Arecanut leaf plate manufacturing unit at Shatap village under Tamlu Sub-division Longleng district which was inaugurated by additional deputy commissioner Tamlu, Temjensangla as a special guest.
Lauding the department for setting up such unit, the first of its kind in the district, Temjensangla said LRD has been extending commendable service to the villagers of the district who has benefited a lot through different schemes and project.
She also emphasised on the importance of using biodegradable disposable cups and plates like arecanut leaves in special occasions and stressed on merchandising policies and benefits of expansion to cover all progressive arecanut farmers in the region.
In a keynote address, District Project Officer (DPO) LRD Longleng, K. Kughalu Chishi said the programme was organised with an aim promote an entrepreneurship and to create awareness on proper use of arecanut leaves to generate rural livelihood.
DPO also said that since the inception of the departmental projects, a huge rubber and arecanut plantations have been developed in the district.
The programme was led by project in-charge, Dr. Zutewe Lekro, invocation was said by Phamjei Phom, short speech was delivered by beneficiary/entrepreneur, Anyah Phom while vote of thanks was delivered by village council chairman Shetap, Mosa Phom. (Correspondent)
Dimapur police: Two-wheeler rally for road safety was organised by Dimapur police Saturday with an aim to create on road safety.
According to DIPR report, the rally which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan saw 50 officers and personnel of traffic zone -I &II ride with placards messages on road safety.
The rally commenced from State Stadium though the town area and National Highway 29 and culminated at traffic control zone-II Chumukedima.
Tuensang police: Commemorating “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, office of the Superintendent of Police, Tuensang organised a mini marathon race Saturday at Tuensang headquarters.
A press release by Tuensang police PRO stated after short programme at Clock Tower Tuensang the marathon was flagged off by superintendent of police, Amit Nigam.
The winners of the marathon were awarded with certificates of merit, medals and gifts while the rest of the participants were all given certificate of participation.
PHED Mokokchung: As a part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, PHED Mokokchung division organised various activities in the district from July 7 which culminated on August 14.
A press release by the department stated that led by executive engineer PHED Mokokchung division, Er N Yanger Pongen and other staff, the department carried out a cleanliness and tree plantation drive at Pump House Mokokchung Town on July 7; webinar on capacity building on ODF sustainability and ODF plus on July 13-14 with Swachhagrahis and WATSAN committee members.
The department also conducted swachhata shramdan (cleanliness drive) of traditional well/ ponds, water source areas was conducted at Mangkolemba town Water Treatment Plant, Merangkong, Yimjenkimong, Khar, Nokpu and Lakhuni villages July 28 to August 2.
An awareness campaign on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) was carried out at Mopungchuket, Longmisa, Chuchuyimpang, Settsu and Mekuli Villages from August 3-9 and ODF sustenance exercise at village level was conducted from August 10-14 by WATSAN committee members along with the village council.
IEC pamphlets on sanitation and water quality monitoring and surveillance were also distributed at household level by swachhagrahis and WATSAN committee members. Short video on the usage of Field-Testing Kit (FTK) was also shared in social media focussing on the targeted group at grass root level for awareness.
DBS Kohima: Don Bosco college Kohima Saturday celebrated “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” with hosting of National Flag, singing of National Anthem, painting competition, essay competition, and speech competition.
A press release by the school stated that a webinar was also organised with professor Willim Baskaram of Gandhigram Deemed to be University.
In his message, professor Baskaram challenged the participants to be Peace soldiers and encouraged them to build the nation with federalism and not with nationalism. “For if nationalism is our foundation, it will divide us and in the long run will destroy us,” said Baskaram.
Citing example of Mahatma Gandhi, he said Gandi was a peace solider who used two instruments of “satyagraha and shantisena” in building peace.
DSO & distt administration Dmu: A rally was flagged off by SDO (C) Dimapur, Hotolu Sema from airport junction, 3rd mile, Dimapur and culminated at Agri Expo, Dimapur on August 13.
According to a DIPR report, in his brief note before flagging off the rally, Hotolu reminded all to remember the freedom fighters who sacrificed for the country.
The rally was organised by DSO Dimapur in collaboration with district administration and volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) and Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Dimapur.
NCC Cadets: NCC Cadets of Kohima Group paid homage to freedom fighters and martyrs on August 13 at Late Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous) war memorial.
A press release by NCC stated that the aim of the event was to create awareness amongst the youths and NCC Cadets on the contribution of freedom fighters in attaining Independence.
In his speech, commanding officer of 24 Nagaland (I) Coy NCC, Kohima, Col Daniel Lotzem mentioned a brief on the valiant actions of late Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous) who belongs to the state of Nagaland.
He said Capt Kenguruse displayed exceptional courage, leadership and spirit of self-sacrifice in the face of the enemy and was faithful till his last to the call of duty during Kargil War of 1999 for which he was awarded Mahavir Chakra (MVC) the second highest bravery award of the Indian Army.
JNAC: J.N. Aier College organised online essay and painting competitions on the theme, ‘azadi ka amrit mahotsav’ under the initiatives of IQAC and National Service Scheme (NSS) to commemorate the 75th Independence Day.
Rally in Mon: Mon district administration in collaboration with YRSO, NYK and NSS Mon organised a rally march in celebration on August 13. The rally was flagged off at local ground Mon by DSO Mon, Anguvito Sumi and proceeded to the office of DC Mon.
The rally witnessed participants from various sports organisations of Mon town, NSS Wangkhao Government College Mon and members of NYK.
Bike rally in Tuensang: District administration along with district YRS conducted a bike rally on August 13.
The Frontier Royal Enfield En-block (FREE) participated in the national flag bike rally starting from clock tower covering all the town.
NSRLM, Kma distributes morpho devices: NSRLM Kohima distributed Morpho devices on August 13 at DPDB Hall, Kohima.
Highlighting the Digipay Sakhi (alternate banking model), state program manager financial inclusion SMMU, NSRLM, Rajuselie Lhousa stated that digital finance was one of the key interventions under financial inclusion where India plans to deploy BC in all gram panchayat under “mission one BC One GP”.
Stating that Nagaland has a plan to position 500 BCs by 2025, he mentioned that morpho devices which were distributed to 27 women area co-ordinator financial inclusion of seven blocks under Kohima district (Digipay Sakhi) would provide financial transaction services at their doorsteps.
He also informed that for the state mission, FI frontline workers includes the master bookkeeper placed in all the villages; Bank Sakhi sitting in the bank branches; the Business Correspondence or Digipay (BC) Sakhi or customer service points (CSP); Bima Sakhi; and FLCRPs, Udyomi (enterprise) Sakhi will be implement very soon.

DAY-NSRLM, Mokokchung: DAY-Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), DMMU, DRDA Mokokchung district organised biometric fingerprint device distribution cum application and training for BC/Digi pay Sakhis in collaboration with Common Service Centre (CSC) on August 13 at DRDA.
Project director DRDA, M. Toshimongla Kichu addressed the participants with the welcome note. Key note address was delivered by EAC, HQ Mokokchung, Vitolu.
Health check-up in Longleng: In commemoration of 75th India Independence Day, district administration in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kandra and health and family welfare conducted a free health check-up for women and girl child and healthy baby show competition for baby girl blow one year of age, under the flagship program of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) on August 14 at Bautung Higher Secondary School, Longleng.
Altogether, 63 babies participated in the competition where Hennyei Phom emerged first while Zuthonglo and Chuya emerged second and third respectively.
A total of 72 women and girl child were examined at the camp. The medical team was headed by SMO, Dr. Ademla while the judge for the baby show competition was Dr. Yopovino MD pathology.
Mass social work at Jalukie: A mass social work was conducted on August 14 at Jalukie under the supervision of additional deputy commissioner Jalukie, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang and extra assistant commissioner Jalukie, Tsenthungo E. Ngullie.
During the drive, all the government offices under Jalukie sub-division, general public, Jalukie Students’ Union, Traders’ Union Jalukie and auto drivers union, Jalukie took part in cleaning their own office surroundings, wards and town areas.
Bhandari conducts week-long mass social work: Bhandari sub-division conducted a week-long mass social work from August 9-14.
The work carried out included cleaning up government offices, institutions, official residences and respective colonies, clearing of drainage and filling up pot holes etc. Public leaders and heads of offices were given in-charge in all the nine colonies to monitor the mass social work.
