
Minister for Home Kuzholuzo Nienu asserted emphasised on the need to do research on the rich culture and traditions of Nagas and urged to revive the culture in a Christian manner and also live in a Christian way.
Speaking at the 59th general session-cum-cultural dance competition of the Phek Students’ Union (PSU) at Phek town Saturday held under the theme “Education for Culture,” Azo said good culture should be used wisely while the culture that does not suit society should be avoided as Nagaland was a Christian state and society.
Azo maintained that good culture transmits good behaviour, respect, obedience, hard work and punctuality adding that culture does not only mean wearing traditional dress, singing folk dances and songs but also one’s good behaviour.
He urged the students to adopt a culture acceptable in human society and to start behaving better and avoid creating nuisance.
The minister acknowledged PSU for doing away the culture of inviting VVIPs as chief guest and “gifting” system but to give due recognition to those students who were doing well in their academic career.
He informed that recognition was very important as recognizing one’s achievement or success was the source of inspiration to work harder. District and session judge Zunheboto Nechochiyi Venuh in his speech stressed on the need to frame a comprehensive road map to march ahead with the competitive world.
Towards this, he said meeting of minds was required among the community. PSU president Ozo Venuh said keeping in mind the harmful effects of the using tobacco, PSU had resolved to prohibit selling of tobacco products to students within the village jurisdiction.
He also said that in order to preserve the rich heritage of unique culture, PSU decided to form building committee for mini-museum. Village leaders, government officials, students and others attended the session.
