
Emphasising on the importance of reviving work culture and becoming a self-reliant state, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA, Wednesday said people of Nagaland should take up agricultural activities or entrepreneurship to improve state’s economy.
He was speaking at a training programme on “entrepreneurship, food processing and value addition” held under the aegis of Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) and TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs as sponsoring agency and conducted under Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (Cepi Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Cluster) at Phek Village.
Azo also lamented that dependency on central subsidies have destroyed “work ethics” of the people for which the “principle of self-reliance has failed to emerge at the desired level”.
Questioning how long could citizens continue to depend on government, Azo said it was time for each individual to stand on their own feet and contribute towards the progress of the state and country.
Stating that ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the country’s economy, he said it was not the time to rely on government but that people should go back to the land, take agricultural activities or entrepreneurship in order to become “self-sufficient, self-dependent and work towards self-reliance”.
Azo also spoke on the need to undertake extensive beekeeping activity across the state, saying that it could not only have health and environment benefits but could also help boost state’s economy.
Deputy team leader NBHM, Er. Khuvoyi Vese said the objective of the training was to facilitate marketing of the products and also strengthen value addition to boost the rural economy.
He also highlighted the gathering on the various activities being undertaken by the mission.
The programme was chaired by Chivozo Soho, welcome address was delivered by chairman Phek Village Council, Kuzhoniecho Keyho, Vekutholu Vero spoke on the process of food processing and vote of thanks was delivered by women VDB secretary Phek village, Hiivekholii Keyho.
