Baichung to attend closing ceremony of WSSA 25th anniv sports in Niuland

Indian football legend Baichung Bhutia, who is also the former Indian football captain and advisor of Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA) will be attending the closing ceremony of the 25th silver jubilee sports meet on February 29 in Niuland. The closing ceremony will also be graced by advisor, Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu as the guest of honour.
In a press release issued by WSSA through its media and publicity cell informed that Baichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh, also former Indian football captain and assistant coach of Indian Super League club, Bengaluru are presently advisors of Western Sumi Sports Association. Under their support and coordination, 11 coaches under western Sumi region, comprising of 11 areas and 187 surrounding villages, under the western Sumi region belt were trained in Siliguri, by British coach Richard. The main objective of the programme was to give basic training and identify young talents in the grass root level, creating appropriate platform so that they could represent in the professional levels.


The association under Baichung and Renedy Singh’s, close guidance is expected to send two talented football players for professional coaching as a pilot project. “The need of the hour was infrastructure, centre of excellence schools, training institutions and professional approach in various disciplines, to build young talents for the future, towards which the association would make dedicated innovative efforts in the future and share its experiences, so that there is a collective growth in the state in the field of sports, which includes the under privileged”, the release stated.


Earlier, in men’s football first semi-final, HASSA beat Shokhuvi (Aqahuto) 2-1 while in the second semi-final match, Kuhoxu (Niuland) defeated Pimla (Aqahuto) 1-0.
In the men’s football final, HASSA will lock horns with Kuhoxu (Niuland).
The semi-finals for volleyball (men) will be Kikheyi (Aghunaqa) vs Ghoshito (Aghunaqa) and Yeveto (Niuland) Vs Thahekhu Unit.
