BAN hosts farewell for Dr. J. Alam

DIMAPUR

The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) organised a farewell programme in honour of Dr. J. Alam, IAS (Retd), outgoing chief secretary of Nagaland, on the occasion of his retirement.
The event was attended by the deputy commissioner Chümoukedima, senior government officials, and members of BAN’s executive council and office bearers.
In his address, Dr. Alam said it was “the greatest honour of my life to serve the people of Nagaland as chief secretary.” He acknowledged BAN as “one of the few organizations genuinely supporting the state’s economic ecosystem,” and appreciated its policy advocacy and official communications.
While pointing out existing challenges, he expressed confidence that Nagaland, with its rich natural and human resources, “can achieve developed state status within 20 years.”
Dr. Alam also shared that the Prime Minister, during the recent All India Chief Secretaries’ meeting, devoted “nearly 20 minutes to Nagaland’s potential,” underlining the national focus on infrastructure and development in the region.
BAN president L. Mongkum Jamir, in his speech, praised Dr. Alam’s public service, stating that “beginnings matter, but endings define legacies.” He described Dr. Alam’s career as a model of outstanding governance, marked by humility, dedication and hard work.
Mongkum noted that “60 years is just the beginning of another innings,” and said Dr. Alam’s experience and commitment would continue to serve the nation.
He appreciated Dr. Alam’s responsiveness to BAN’s proposals, citing the swift posting of a joint director at the MSME directorate as a notable outcome, and assured that pending matters would be pursued with his successor.
