DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioners of Chümoukedima and Peren have issued separate orders lifting restrictions on the transportation, slaughter, sale and movement of pigs and pork in their respective jurisdictions, following reports of nil incidence of African Swine Fever (ASF).
In Chümoukedima, DC Polan John lifted the ban imposed on May 25, 2026, covering Toulozouma and adjoining villages.
According to a report from the Chief Veterinary Officer, Chümoukedima, there have been no further incidences or deaths of pigs due to African Swine Fever (ASF) in the declared containment zone. Based on the nil incidence report and prevailing disease situation, the area has been certified free from ASF, leading to the recommendation for lifting restrictions.
The DC’s order, issued in supersession of the earlier ban dated May 25, 2026, stated that while restrictions have been lifted, the Veterinary Department will continue strict disease surveillance and routine monitoring. Any suspected case of ASF must be reported immediately to the District Administration for necessary action.
All concerned departments, village councils and the general public have been requested to take note and ensure strict compliance with the order.
In Peren, DC Hiazu Meru lifted the ban on slaughter of pigs, import of pork and transportation of pigs into Jalukie Valley, which had been in force since April 25, 2026. Acting on the recommendation of the Chief Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Officer, the DC directed pork vendors, butchers, traders, transporters and consumers to maintain robust biosecurity measures, produce transit challans and quarantine history documents, and obtain valid health certificates from competent veterinarians.
