Lamenting that Nagaland has missed many opportunities to be part of success story of Indian economic growth over the years, Business Association of Nagas (BAN) has appealed to the Central Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) for his intervention for redressal of its various requests.
In a memorandum addressed to the union Minister for MSME, the BAN president Thungbemo Murry and general secretary Dr. Khekugha Muru pointed out that the opportunity has once again come back with the government of India initiative of ‘Make In India’ and ‘Act East Policy’ to make India a global manufacturing superpower. BAN said this time round the association was determined to make Nagaland part of this success story.
Apprising that Naga entrepreneurs consisted mostly of first generation with 99% engaged in trading and retailing, which was also the overall picture of Nagaland economic activity, the association, however, maintained that in the process many Naga entrepreneurs, who have had exposure and experience with the market, were today confident enough to diversify their activities into manufacturing, service and IT sector.
But, it said the Naga business community was in dire need of government intervention and strong will to promote the new generation business community.
In the memorandum, the BAN sought the intervention of the minister for setting up Manufacturing Park in Dimapur, revival of North East Industrial Policy, up-gradation of MSME office to MSME directorate in Nagaland, setting up of separate north-east cell under the ministry and setting up of food testing laboratory in Nagaland.
Stating that his prompt redressal of its request would be a mile stone in ushering into a new economic era of Nagaland, BAN further said his intervention, encouragement and assistance would be kept in record so that the future generation would acknowledge his sincere and genuine support to the first generation Naga business houses.
