Banana Festival 2025 to empower farmers in Wokha

DIMAPUR

In anticipation of the upcoming Banana Festival, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, convened a press conference at the DC Office on October 18 to share key updates and details about the event.
Organized by the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha and various line departments, the Banana Festival will be held from October 22 to 24 at the public ground, Wokha. The initiative is part of the district’s Five-Year Vision Document, previously launched in the presence of Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh.
Deputy chief minister T.R. Zeliang will attend the festival as the special guest, while deputy chief minister Yanthungo Patton will be the chief host.
Highlighting the objectives of the festival, DC Kumar emphasized that the event is more than a celebration—it is a strategic platform aimed at empowering over 6,000 farmers. The festival seeks to facilitate connections between buyers and sellers, and provide training in scientific cultivation methods and value addition. Kumar expressed optimism that Wokha will emerge as a hub for banana production and other agricultural crops.
The festival is being jointly organized by ICAR–KVK Wokha with support from NABARD, the Central Institute of Horticulture, the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, and over 30 institutions from across the country and the state.
Key highlights of the three-day event include over 100 stalls showcasing banana by-products, farming innovations, and other exhibits. Technical sessions will enable farmers to engage with experts and dignitaries from various institutes. The festival will feature interactive and recreational activities such as banana-eating competitions, a “Best Banana Bunch” contest, quiz competitions, and more, aimed at celebrating and identifying the diverse banana varieties found in Wokha.
Concluding the briefing, the DC extended an open invitation to the public to attend the festival, support local farmers, and contribute to the success of an event dedicated to uplifting the farming community.
