One Bangladeshi, part of eight to nine Bangladeshi armed intruders, managed to escaped after hurling an explosive at pursuing villagers in Majersora–Hathinala forest area of Meghalaya’s South West Khasi Hills district. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the Village Defence Party, who were assisting combing the Border Security Force (BSF) and Meghalaya Police to nab the intruders, spotted the Bangladeshi intruder hiding in a forested area.
“One of the explosives didn’t explode, but the other did. Fortunately none was injured in the explosion, but the intruder escaped into the jungle,” Banraplang Jyrwa, the district police chief of South West Khasi Hills, said.
Meghalaya police from Gumaghat and Ranikor, BSF troops supported by K9 teams and Village Defence Parties sealed all escape routes.
Inspector General of BSF, Meghalaya Frontier, O.P. Upadhayay said a massive combing operation is ongoing in the area conducted by the state police together with the BSF.
He said the villagers have all joined in to assist the security force as they are well-versed with the terrain.
On August 8, an armed gang of 8–9 Bangladeshis, including a Bangladesh Army and Constable of Bangladesh Police, illegally entered Indian territory and stormed Rongdangai village. These intruders stabbed and injured an Indian villager, vandalised properties.
Out of the about nine Bangladeshi intruders, five of them so far have been arrested, while one of the intruder identified as Akram from Jenaghati village under Sherpur district of Bangladeshi succumbed to his grievous injuries.
“We are still are searching for at least two other Bangladeshi intruders who are on the run,”
Upadhayay said and reiterated BSF’s firm resolve to protect India’s borders from cross-border threats.
