DIMAPUR: Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering, P. Bashangmongba Chang, inaugurated the new Superintendent of Police (SP) Office at Tuensang on August 28.
Speaking at the function, Bashangmongba said the occasion was significant for the people of Tuensang as it marked not merely the inauguration of a government building but also the strengthening of an institution entrusted with maintaining peace, security, law and order.
He noted that the Police Department has served the district with dedication despite challenging circumstances, and the construction of a modern, well equipped office was a long awaited development, a DIPR report stated.
He said the new office symbolises the growth and professionalism of the police force and re-flects a renewed commitment to public service.
The facility, he added, would provide a better working environment for personnel and enable them to discharge responsibilities more effi-ciently.
Highlighting emerging challenges in modern policing, Bashangmongba pointed out that crime is no longer confined to the physical world, with cybercrime, online fraud and other technol-ogy enabled offences becoming growing concerns. He stressed the need for the police to con-tinuously upgrade skills, embrace new technologies and remain prepared to meet changing societal needs.
The minister appreciated Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton for their continued concern and commitment towards strengthening police infrastructure across the state.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Akash Sinha, SDPO Tuensang, with a dedicatory prayer led by Changsang, pastor, PBC Tuensang. Technical report was presented by Chonbenthung Ezung, SDO, Police Engineering Project, Tuensang. Speeches were also delivered by Pakhiu Khaim, vice president, ENPO, and R. Vikram Ezung, DIG, NAP Range, while a special presentation was given by Mününü Vero.
