K. G. Kenye, Member of Parliament (MP), Rajya Sabha (RS) has called upon the student community to be forward looking, productive and a progressive society, on January 4 at Tsupfume village.
According to a press release issued by PRO to MP (RS), Kenye said this while addressing the 35th General Session of Razeba Students’ Union (RSU), where he also lamented that the present generation was not productive but it had only inherited things from the past generations. He questioned what the present generations’ achievements had been and what it had contributed to the world community to be proud of. There is nothing worth mentioning to be called a positive or significant contribution and whatever has been earned have been through the sweat, blood, life and sacrifices of the past generations, he said.
On identity and unity, he asserted that “we are tribal people and there is not even a single Naga who is tribe less” and “every Naga belongs to one or the other tribe”. Stating that being a tribal was a Naga’s identity, he made an appeal to stop being judgemental, quarrelsome and also to refrain from creating more divisions among the Nagas.
He urged educated young people to not misuse the knowledge they acquired but to use them in a positive way to build a productive and purposeful society, to protect and promote the interest of one’s land and people. He further asked students to be committed and grow up as matured and responsible citizens of the world community which, he said, would be among their greatest contributions.
With all the latest technologies of the 21st century, the world has become small and the concept of the global village has arrived and so, he challenged the student community to march ahead and not become stagnant in one place.
He hoped that the younger generation would continue to strive and leave a trial which posterity would someday look back on and take pride in.
