Be agents of change for a stronger society: Rio

Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio called upon the people to be agents of change rather than shifting blame, in order to build a stronger society.
While admitting that social reformation and change could not happen overnight, Rio challenged the younger generation to strive for it.
He was addressing the 8th Foundation day of KROS College at Leirie Kohima as the honoured guest on Saturday.
Citing examples of the Japanese and Koreans, Rio urged the Naga people to cultivate the culture of hard work to build a developed society.
Rio expressed regret that due to the unresolved Naga political issue, Nagas had missed the opportunity to utilize their talents and develop themselves.
However, he was optimistic that the Naga issue would be resolved soon, and he encouraged youth to not lose hope.
He further challenged the student community to work hard and acquire quality knowledge in order to become responsible citizens.
Rio lauded KROS college for not only imparting basic education but also focusing on extracurricular activities, with special emphasis on the less privileged and differently-abled students.
Encouraging the student community to be serious with their education, Rio said that through education, they should gain knowledge to benefit and uplift society. He also encouraged the students to focus on skill development.
Stressing on the importance of employability, Rio said that though imparting education has many dimensions, whatever has been learnt should fit into the market needs after students complete their studies.
College administrator Vidilhou Suohu in his welcome address said that the college, besides providing quality education, also focuses on teaching the students self-sustenance by imparting skill development trainings. He also highlighted the facilities available in the college like free wi-fi, smart classes with the latest technology, etc.
Earlier, the chief minister launched the “Sadze” and “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan” in the college. He also released the college magazine.
The program was chaired by Watichila Imchen, and the invocation prayer was offered by Rev. Keviyiekielie Linyü.
Other highlights included special songs by Thoidamo Nring, teaching and non-teaching staff, Ledilhounuo and Nourhe Whuorie.
The vote of thanks was proposed by college principal Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.
