In an initiative for beekeeping enthusiasts, the School of Agricultural Sciences at Nagaland University, Medziphema, organized a comprehensive one-day training program on “Scientific Meliponiculture and Apiculture for Entrepreneurship Development” at Tseminyu New Town on December 7.
The inaugural function was attended by chairman of Ward-2, Tseminyu Town, Logubu as the special guest who highlighted the diverse roles played by bees in ecosystem maintenance. He urged farmers to commit to gaining knowledge from the training, emphasizing the greater cause of bee conservation.
The first technical session, led by Dr. Chauhan, emphasized the crucial role of bees in biodiversity conservation, underlining the importance of quality management in beekeeping practices. 67 beekeepers from seven different ranges of Tseminyu district took part in the session.
Lily Tep, an Apitherapist, led the second session, encouraging farmers to incorporate modern technologies for productive beekeeping. She discussed the therapeutic aspects of bee products, emphasizing their role in curing various ailments. Ngukho, a bee professional from AICRP (HB&P), focused on the vital role of bees in pollination during the third session, elaborating on the advantages of scientific beekeeping.
The training concluded with practical sessions and the distribution of beekeeping equipment and certificates. The program was chaired by Principal Investigator of the All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Honey Bees and Pollinators (AICRP(HB&P), Dr. Avinash Chauhan.
Insights into colony multiplication, honey extraction, and the use of scientific bee boxes for Stingless bees was given by Ngukho.
