Bengaluru, May 21 (IANS): A college student who works part-time at a momos shop in Bengaluru was allegedly raped at her workplace by a man identified as Hynash, a friend of her employers, with the case reported within the limits of the Madiwala police station on Wednesday, officials said on Thursday. The victim stated that the incident occurred on May 11, around midnight, while the shop owners Atul and Ghosh had stepped out for dinner, with the accused allegedly threatening her against approaching the police or filing a complaint. The victim has filed a complaint against three persons – Hynash, Atul, and Ghosh – and further alleged that despite filing the complaint, no action had been initiated by the jurisdictional police. According to the complaint, the accused Hynash was acting as a middleman assisting the owners in selling the momos shop, and was known to the victim through her workplace.
The incident is among a series of sexual assault cases that have come to light in Bengaluru in recent weeks. In one case, two men were arrested in Bengaluru South for sexually assaulting two orphaned girls aged 11 and 12 over a period of more than a year, recording the acts and uploading them to social media for financial gain before being apprehended following an alert from the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. In another case, five individuals were arrested in connection with the alleged drugging and gang-rape of a 19-year-old college student at a villa in Jakkur, where the victim, a first-year BA student from Tirupur in Tamil Nadu, alleged she was forced to consume a pink-coloured tablet that caused her to feel dizzy and lose consciousness before being sexually assaulted inside a room at the villa. The string of cases has raised serious concerns about the safety of women and young girls in the city.
