Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda on Monday appointed Benjamin Yepthomi as the new state president of Nagaland BJP unit.
“BJP national president has appointed Benjamin Yepthomi, as State president of Nagaland BJP. The appointment comes into immediate effect,” BJP national general secretary (HQ), Arun Singh said in a notification on Monday.
Benjamin will take over charge of party affairs from Temjen Imna Along.
Prior to his new appointment, Benjamin was the State BJP vice president. He was also the former president of the State Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) for two consecutive terms.
Taking to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Benjamin expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, union home minister Amit Shah and national general secretary (Org) BL Santhosh for giving him the responsibility to serve as the State president.
He also thanked Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP North East Coordinator Sambit Patra, NE co-cordinator Rituraj Sinha, BJP Nagaland in-charge Nalin S Kohli, deputy CM Y. Patton and general secretary (org) Nagaland Abhay Giri and other party leaders and karyakatas of BJP Nagaland, for their constant guidance and support.
Expressing gratitude to his predecessor, Imna Along, Benjamin said it was under Along’s leadership that he got the opportunity to serve the party in various capacities. “It is an honour and a privilege to continue serving the world’s largest political party and the people,” he stated.
Rio, others congratulate
Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy CM and BLP leader, Y. Patton and outgoing BJP president and minister Temjen Imna Along took to microblogging site X to congratulate Benjamnin.
Rio conveyed his Heartiest congratulations to Benjamin on being appointed as the State BJP president.
“I wish you a successful tenure. I also extend my good wishes for further success to the outgoing president Shri @AlongImna,” Rio said.
Patton: Congratulating Benjamin, deputy CM Y Patton said he has served the party holding various positions and was a hardworking karyakarta.
Patton said that, with his vast knowledge of party affairs, his organizational skills and experience, Yepthomi would lead the party to greater heights.
Patton thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president JP Nadda for having put their trust on the young and dynamic leader to lead the party.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Temjen Imna Along, the outgoing state BJP president for steering the state BJP party to a better position.
Along: Outgoing state BJP president Imna Along also congratulated Benjamin Yepthomi on his appointment as the new president of BJP Nagaland.
“Your vision and commitment will definitely take BJP Nagaland to greater heights. My best wishes for a successful tenure ahead,” Along stated.
Meanwhile, BJP also announced the appointment of Rikman Momin and S Selvaganabathy as State presidents of Meghalaya and Puducherry respectively.
