Bhagwat warns on illegal migration

NEW DELHI, AUG 28 (AGENCIES)

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said the Sangh will bat for reservation till the beneficiaries do not feel the need for it while addressing the media at a press conference on Thursday. Bhagwat said that while the caste system once existed, it has no relevance today.
“Caste-based reservation must be approached with sensitivity. Deendayal Ji had a vision… those at the bottom should strive to rise, and those at the top should extend a hand to pull them up. The Sangh has always backed Constitutionally-guaranteed reservation,” he said. Bhagwat was speaking at an event — part of a three-day centenary lecture series — titled “100 years of the Sangh’s journey – New Horizons”.
The RSS chief also urged not to give jobs to illegal migrants and termed conversion and illegal migration as the key reasons for demographic imbalance. “Conversion and illegal migration are key reasons for demographic imbalance. We should not give jobs to illegal immigrants; we should give jobs to our own people, including Muslims,” he said. Bhagwat said that while the government is trying to curb illegal immigration, society also needs to do its part.
In response to the question as to why doesn’t the RSS support other political parties besides the BJP?, Bhagwat said: “We provide assistance to those who seek help from us for good work. When we attempt to provide assistance, those who run away from us often don’t receive the help they need, so what can we do? But sometimes, to run the country or to carry out a party’s work, if it is good, our volunteers go and help. We have no hesitation. The entire society is ours. If there is an obstruction from their side.”
On religion, Bhagwat said that it is a personal choice and should not be imposed on anyone. “Why talk of Hindu-Muslim unity when all are same, we all are Indians,” the RSS chief said, adding that Hindu thinking does not say Islam won’t be here in the country. “Akhand Bharat is fact of life, we should realise our culture and ancestors are same,” he said. He also added that roads and places should not be named after foreign aggressors and invaders. “I am not saying they should not be named after Muslims,” he said.
When asked about the appointment of new BJP president and organisational changes, Bhagwat remarked, “If RSS chose BJP president, would it have taken so long.” He said RSS does not have any sub-ordinate units and added that the Sangh has good coordination with both the Centre as well as state governments.
Bhagwat said Indian families should have three children in interest of the country. “This is what doctors have said… Our country’s population recommends a birth rate of 2.1, which is fine as an average, but you can never have 0.1 of a child. In math, 2.1 becomes 2, but when it comes to births, after two, it has to be three,” the RSS chief said.
On retirement, Bhagwat said that he never mentioned that “I or someone else should retire” at 75 years. He said, “No bar on a family person becoming RSS chief, but the person needs to devote all his time to the organisation”.
