Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dimapur unit on Monday organized a celebratory feast at its office premises in Super Market, Dimapur, following the party’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections after a gap of 27 years.

Addressing the media at a press conference, BJP Dimapur president Shekishe Achumi described the victory as a “monumental day” for the party across India.

When asked whether the party’s victory in Delhi would impact its presence in the state, Shekishe said that Delhi was considered a citadel for any political party and expressed optimism that BJP’s success in the national capital would serve as a morale booster for the party’s growth in the entire country, including Nagaland.

Asked on whether the victory would lead to an increase in party membership, Shekishe expressed hope that more people would be encouraged to join BJP. On BJP’s alliance with NDPP in state and possibility of contesting future elections independently, Shekishe replied that the party currently shares power with NDPP and expressed the hope to strengthen its presence in the state.

When asked on the election manifestoes and promises made during elections, Shekishe assured that BJP legislators in the state were working hard to ensure that their commitments and manifesto pledges were fulfilled before the end of their term.

Meanwhile, president, BJP Dimapur Mandal 1, LR Anthony, said that BJP, as the world’s largest political party, always welcomes new members, even though the official membership drive had ended.

Further dwelling on the 40:20 seat-sharing arrangement between BJP and NDPP, he emphasized that both parties had agreed to work together to fulfill the aspirations and agendas of the alliance government.
