BJP MLAs prioritize peace before government return in Manipur

CorrespondentIMPHAL, DEC 16 (NPN)

Speculation over the re-installation of a popular government in Manipur was put to rest after BJP legislators, who attended a meeting convened by party central leaders in New Delhi, returned to Imphal on Tuesday.
Interacting with reporters at Imphal airport, several MLAs stated that the formation of a popular government would only take place after peace and normalcy are restored in the state. They described the recent meeting at BJP headquarters as a “good start,” while acknowledging that the issue of government formation was also deliberated during the close-door discussions.
On December 14, BJP MLAs from Manipur met party national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh and northeast coordinator Sambit Patra in New Delhi. Central leaders reportedly directed the legislators to be proactive in restoring normalcy and to work towards ensuring peace, while stressing that the meeting primarily centred on peace and progress in Manipur.
Robindro (MLA Thanga A/C, Bishnupur) termed the meeting crucial, maintaining that deliberations focused on restoring normalcy and ensuring long-term stability. He asserted that government formation would follow only after peace and stability return, while urging unity among communities and calling for reconciliation in the larger interest of development.
Y Radheshyam and H Dingo both MLAs echoed similar views, describing the discussions as constructive and forward-looking. They expressed hope that continued dialogue with central leaders would lead to positive outcomes for the people and help move the state towards stability and progress.
H Dingo Singh (MLA Sekmai A/C, Imphal West) said the central leaders reviewed the ground situation and stressed unity, coordination and responsible political engagement to normalize the situation. He added that further rounds of discussions were expected as part of the party’s ongoing engagement on Manipur.
Thangjam Arunkumar (MLA Wangkhei A/C, Imphal East) termed the meeting highly significant, noting that it was encouraging to see all BJP MLAs, including those from the Kuki community, under one platform. He said deliberations focused on peace, development and government formation, describing the meeting as “very important and positive.”
Meanwhile, Th Radheshyam MLA, who returned on Monday, reiterated that the primary objective of the meeting was to restore peace and ensure development. On queries regarding leadership selection, he remarked that “some matters are within their control, others are beyond it.”
