The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland on Thursday commemorated the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay at the party’s State Head Office in Kohima, paying tribute to one of India’s most revered political thinkers and ideologues.
The event was attended by senior party leaders, office bearers and karyakartas, with deputy chief minister and BJP Legislature Party Leader Y. Patton leading the tributes. In his address, Patton described Pandit Upadhyay as a guiding light of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh who dedicated his life to the service of the nation and the upliftment of the common man.
Highlighting Upadhyay’s philosophy of Integral Humanism, Patton said it promotes balanced development rooted in cultural ethos, where progress is measured not only in economic terms but also in moral and social harmony. He also emphasized the principle of Antyodaya—upliftment of the last person in society as a cornerstone of Upadhyay’s vision, calling it a collective responsibility to ensure justice, dignity, and opportunity for all.
“As we remember Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay ji today, let us rededicate ourselves to his ideals of selfless service, inclusive growth, and nation-building. His life and thoughts remain a beacon, guiding us towards building a stronger, self-reliant, and harmonious India,” Patton stated.
State BJP President Benjamin Yepthomi also addressed the gathering, describing Upadhyay as one of India’s greatest thinkers whose vision left an indelible mark on the soul of the nation. He underscored that the strength of India lies not only in its economy or politics, but in its civilizational values, spirituality, and humanity.
“Panditji gave us the guiding philosophy of Ekatma Manav Darshan (Integral Humanism). This was not just political theory but a way of life that emphasized harmony between material progress and spiritual values, between individual aspirations and collective responsibility,” Yepthomi said.
He further noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Upadhyay’s vision is being realized through initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana for financial inclusion, Ujjwala Yojana for women’s dignity, and Ayushman Bharat for healthcare access—each reflecting the dream of Antyodaya.
Yepthomi praised Upadhyay’s simplicity and humility, stating that despite his intellectual brilliance, he remained grounded and worked tirelessly for the organization and the nation. He urged party workers to emulate Upadhyay’s example and dedicate themselves to serving society, especially the most deprived.
State ST Morcha president Thomas Magh delivered a speech on the themes of Self-reliant India and Swadeshi, encouraging party members to actively align with the party’s vision and schemes.
The programme was chaired by State BJP Secretary Medochȕtuo Kiewhuo and began with an invocation prayer by State Office Secretary Keviphonuo Ngukha. A vote of thanks was proposed by State Vice President Eduzu Theluo.
The occasion was marked by a ceremonial cake cutting by Dy CM Patton and State President Yepthomi, followed by the lighting of the lamp by representatives of the Minority and OBC Morcha.
