BJP workers protest over insult to PM Modi outside Cong Bhavan in Shillong

CorrespondentShillong, Sep 1

Workers of the BJP and the Congress on Monday indulged in sloganeering and heated exchange outside the premises of Congress Bhavan here in Meghalaya, protesting against abusive remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra.
BJP workers, led by BJP Yuva Morcha president Mewaker Lyngdoh, marched to the Congress Bhavan in Thana road, said the party will not tolerate the insult to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi must apologise to the nation.
Lyngdoh said that the BJP has also made plan to stage a protest in front of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) office here in Meghalaya to mount pressure on the government to take action against TMC MP Mahua Moitra for her alleged derogatory remarks.
The state BJP had filed a zero FIR before Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district, demanding action against Moitra.
“As a leader, one cannot make irresponsible statements that create differences among people,” the BJP youth leader said, adding that the party claims to stand for development, peace, and harmony.
Condemning the BJP’s protest outside its office, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said, “ This is a familiar BJP tactic—when cornered by facts, they hide behind emotion. When unable to answer for unemployment, inflation, and rigged elections, they weaponise grief, religion, and identity to deflect accountability.”
“The BJP has deliberately attributed false words to Rahul Gandhi to engineer outrage and distract the nation. This is not a grievance, but a stunt—designed to divert public attention from the real issue: the systematic theft of votes and the ongoing collapse of India’s economy under the Modi government,” a MPCC statement said.
