WOKHA, OCT 5 (NPN): BJP Youth Wing, Wokha, conducted a cleanliness drive at Tsumang Lake on Monday, calling for better maintenance and development of the site, which it described as the only ecological lake in Wokha town.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP Youth Wing Wokha president Shanchothung A. Ezung said the lake has been adversely affected by indiscriminate dumping of waste, including plastic and animal carcasses. He urged the government to take up the matter in the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) for beautification and development of the area. Ezung pointed out that proper maintenance of the lake could also help generate revenue, and suggested deploying a designated guard to prevent littering and ensure regular upkeep. The cleanliness drive began at around 8 a.m. with participation from the BJP Youth Wing team. Garbage trucks from the Wokha Town Council and a boat from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were used during the operation. Highlighting the organisation’s continued efforts, Ezung said the BJP Youth Wing has earlier conducted medical camps, seed distribution, awareness programmes and other cleanliness drives, and added that the group would strive to make the Tsumang Lake drive an annual activity.
The Youth Wing expressed gratitude to BJP State Youth president Khekato Awomi and National Executive Member of the National Youth Wing Arvind Damani for sponsoring the initiative. It also thanked the SDRF Wokha for providing life jackets and boats for volunteers, the Wokha Town Council for its support and garbage truck, town councillor James Tungoe for providing refreshments, and Urban Crew Car Rentals for assisting with transportation.
