BJYM stages dharna outside Cong Bhavan in Dimapur

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, FEB 21 (NPN):

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Nagaland state unit on Saturday staged a peaceful dharna outside Congress Bhavan in Dimapur to protest the alleged behaviour of Youth Congress members during the recent Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit held in New Delhi.
BJYM activists raised slogans while holding placards some of which read “Youth Congress must respect the PM’s office”, “Maintain national decorum, Youth Congress”, and “Protest with dignity, Youth Congress”.
Addressing the media persons at the dharna site, BJYM state unit president and Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) councillor V. Khekato Awomi explained that the demonstration was in response to the actions of certain Congress members at the high-profile AI Summit, which was attended by over 20 heads of state, more than 600 ministers, and 500–600 global AI leaders.
“Such a major international event was taking place in our country. If they had grievances, they could have protested later. Why choose that precise moment when world leaders were present?” he questioned. Awomi described the summit as an important platform to showcase India’s progress and national pride, and criticised the timing of the protest as inappropriate.
During the interaction, questions were raised about separate allegations that an AI robotic dog displayed at the summit was reportedly a Chinese-manufactured product that had been presented as Indian made, potentially causing embarrassment to the country.
BJYM Nagaland general secretary Rajat Ghosh dismissed the claims as “mere accusations” from China lacking concrete evidence. He stressed that citizens and political parties should stand united with the nation rather than amplify unverified external allegations.
Also, rejecting the allegations that the Prime Minister was compromised, Ghosh described tariffs and foreign policy matters as issues to be handled by the government and diplomats.
He clarified that BJYM protest was directed specifically at what he called the “cruel act” of Youth Congress members staging a demonstration during an international summit. “Opposing the government is part of democracy, but an international event attended by world leaders and innovators is not the place for street protests,” he said, adding that such actions tarnished India’s image globally.
When pressed again on the robotic dog controversy and whether it amounted to national embarrassment, BJYM Nagaland general secretary Likao Odyuo reiterated that the issue remained an unproven allegation. Odyuo noted that the government had not officially presented the product in question, and emphasised that today’s dharna focused solely on condemning the conduct of Youth Congress members during the summit.
The interaction concluded amid slogan-shouting by BJYM supporters outside the Congress Bhavan.
