The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Nagaland state organized a youth sansad (youth parliament) at Pranabananda Women’s College (PWC), Dimapur on September 29.
A press release from BJYM media cell stated that, assistant commissioner, N. Bhavani (P) and Ani Yepthomi, director junior high, Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School, Dimapur were the speakers who spoke on the topics, “Women empowerment and New India” and “Role of youth in the making of New India” respectively.
Addressing the audience, Bhavani said that women in Nagaland were getting more privilege in terms of education. She said there was no female infanticide or dowry system in Nagaland and education was equally imparted to the girl child in Nagaland.
Ani Yepthomi, in her presentation, urged the students to have feelings for those less privileged and experience the joy of giving.
Principal, PWC, Uma Bhowmick also exhorted the girl students to not feel lesser than their male counterparts. She said the mindset of both genders have to be changed for women to be empowered.
The program was chaired by Likao Odyuo, vice president, BJYM Nagaland and Aliba Sangtam, general secretary pronounced the invocation. A vote of thanks was delivered by Arvind Damani, co-incharge, North East India.
Welcome address was delivered by Inoto Kinimi, vice president BJYM Nagaland. BJYM president Nagaland, Benjamin Yepthomi was also present at the program.
