
At least four rounds were reportedly fired on Thursday night creating panic amongst residents of Alahuto Colony, Zunheboto town.
According to reports, security personnel—AR/paratroopers allegedly fired blank shots while trying to disperse public following an operation carried out to nab some suspected NSCN (K) cadres. An eye witness said: “AR came in civvies to nab suspected NSCN (K) cadre at Alahuto colony. Since army personnel were in civvies, the colony youths started protesting. To disperse the gathering, the security forces resorted to blank shots.”
The situation was brought under control after the arrival of STH-Z president Tokhuli, ZTGBA president Zhehoto, colony elders and some youth leaders. However, AR sources stated that the shots were fired by suspected NSCN (K) cadres who fled from the area to evade arrest. AR sources further said that one senior functionary of the NSCN (K) armed wing, reportedly a town commander, was apprehended by the security forces.
Meanwhile, police sources also confirmed that a cadre of the NSCN (K) was apprehended.
