Blessed Bonding, an NGO formed by parents of children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), observed its 2nd Foundation Day at JBC Conference Hall, Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR), Dimapur, on October 26 under the theme “Finding Strength in the Struggle, Speaking in the Silence.” The event was sponsored by Alisha Foundation.
Blessed Bonding, officially launched on October 26, 2024, was formed to address the lack of awareness and institutional support for children with IDD, including conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, and specific learning or multiple disabilities. The organisation aims to build an inclusive community, advocate for the rights of children with IDD, and amplify their voices within the State.
Addressing the gathering, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dimapur, Zakabo Rotokha, lauded the vision and commitment of the parents who came together to form Blessed Bonding. He acknowledged the unique challenges faced by parents of children with special needs and described them as “the greatest architects” of their children’s education, dignity, and rights. He urged parents to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to thrive within families, churches, and society at large.
Rotokha emphasized that inclusion begins with perception and treatment, and called for collective support from institutions, schools, hospitals, and the community. He stressed the need for policies and laws that are inclusive, accessible, and reflective of a society that values every individual regardless of ability. “Every successful policy decision is a step in the right direction, and organisations like Blessed Bonding play a vital role in that journey,” he stated.
He further noted that advocacy and support for children with IDD remain minimal in the State and encouraged Blessed Bonding to serve as both a support network and a platform for institutional engagement. “The journey may be difficult, but it is deeply meaningful,” he said, praying for strength and perseverance for all parents of children with special needs.
Speaking on the theme, Clinical Psychologist at CIHSR, Imlibenla Mongro-Domeh, congratulated Blessed Bonding on its milestone and encouraged parents to focus on accessibility rather than barriers. Drawing from biblical inspiration, she urged parents to reflect on their roles and attitudes in nurturing children with disabilities. She emphasized the importance of embracing each child’s unique journey and fostering a solution-oriented mindset.
Highlights of the programme included an invocation and special prayer by Nyoimei, welcome address by Anito Kiba, chairman of Blessed Bonding, special presentations by Angel Home, Signal Angami, and Chabou Mepfhuo, and a special report by Akokla Longchar, executive member. The event also featured the release of a newsletter by the special guest and a vote of thanks delivered by Akahoto Jimo, treasurer of Blessed Bonding.
