To improve access to advanced healthcare in Nagaland, BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, has started monthly multi-specialty OPD services in partnership with Eden Medical Centre, Dimapur.
The services will cover Nephrology & Renal Transplantation, Oncology, and HPB Surgery & Liver Transplantation. Senior doctors from BLK-Max will visit Dimapur once a month.
Addressing a press conference at Eden Medical Centre, Principal Director for Nephrology & Renal Transplantation, BLK-Max, Dr Vishal Saxena, said that OPD services at Eden Medical Centre were earlier conducted occasionally, but will now be offered regularly through a monthly schedule.
He said the aim is to build stronger healthcare connections with Nagaland and offer super-specialty camps for the local population.
“Travelling to Delhi for consultations can be overwhelming. Seeing a specialist in your own state offers comfort and ease, without compromising on care,” Saxena stated.
Director of Medical Oncology, BLK-Max, Dr Chandragouda Dodagoudar, highlighted the convenience of monthly OPD services.
Having treated Naga patients for years, he said the regular service would save time, energy and cost for patients. “With local follow-ups available, there’s less need to travel to Delhi. Our aim is to provide accessible, affordable care at par with Western standards,” he added.
He also informed that the OPD services are covered under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), making specialist care more accessible.
In his address, Principal Consultant for HPB Surgery & Liver Transplantation, Dr Imtiakum Jamir, expressed concern over rising liver diseases in the state, especially due to alcohol-related cirrhosis and fatty liver. He said early treatment is key to preventing liver cancer.
Dr Jamir shared that BLK-Max performs about 200 liver transplants annually, with 15 Nagaland patients receiving transplants in the last five years. A regular visitor to Nagaland for patient consultations, he said monthly OPD services will reduce the need for patients to travel to Delhi for follow-ups.
To help patients plan visits, the availability of specialist doctors will be announced in local newspapers before each OPD session.
