Blood donation drive heldat St. Joseph University

A blood donation drive organized by National Cadet Corps (NCC), Red Ribbon Club (RRC), and Youth Red Cross Club (YRCC) of St. Joseph University was held on October 22, 2025, at the University’s Seminar Hall.
A press release by SJU stated that resource person, MD (Pathology), Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), Dr. Mejungsangla Longkumer, highlighted the significance of blood donation and emphasized how every donor plays vital role in saving lives.
She also shed light on shortage of blood donors in India, particularly in Nagaland, attributing it to lack of awareness and misconceptions surrounding blood donation.
Dr. Longkumer explained the three main types of blood donors, namely, professional donors, replacement donors, and voluntary donors, and discussed the eligibility criteria for donation, including adequate sleep, minimum body weight of 45 kg, and an age range between 18 and 65 years.
She further elaborated on health benefits of blood donation and positive impact it has on both donor and recipient, as well as the contribution of donors to CIHSR Blood Centre.
Around 250 students from the three organizing clubs attended the program that was aimed at promoting awareness about on importance of voluntary blood donation and to encourage students to contribute to saving lives.
Following the awareness session, the university conducted a blood donation drive in collaboration with CIHSR Blood Centre, with 32 volunteers successfully donating blood.
The release added that the drive was coordinated by Mughakali, Heli, Dr. Patrick, Dr. Kikoleho Richa, and Dr. Marsosang, Assistant Professors of St. Joseph University.
