Body of missing fisherman recovered from Doyang River

CorrespondentWOKHA, MAR 1 (NPN):

The body of a 48-year-old fisherman, Ezanthung Odyuo of New Riphyim, who had been missing since February 26, was recovered from the Doyang River on Sunday at around 3 pm.
The body was found below the UBC Doyang Cemetery area, about 100 metres from where his fishing net had been kept.
According to village sources, concern arose after his safety tube was found floating in the river. When he failed to return home, villagers launched a search. As no one had witnessed the incident, it was unclear whether he was alive or dead. After two days of continuous search efforts, the villagers filed a formal report on February 28.
Following the report, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Wokha, led by platoon commander Mhonyamo, began search operations on February 28 at around 10 am after receiving information from the District Disaster Management Authority earlier that morning.
On the first day, 16 SDRF personnel conducted the search till 4.40 pm. Later, 26 personnel intensified the operation, carrying out battle search procedures and using the spiralling boat technique to generate waves in an attempt to bring the body to the surface.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), led by deputy commandant A. Boboi, arrived at the site on March 1 at 7 am with 29 personnel, two boats and three deep divers. After several underwater attempts, the deep divers recovered the body at around 3 pm. Officials said the body had been stuck beneath a stone, which may have prevented earlier wave-generation efforts from yielding results.
Sources said the body had an injury on the chin and was bleeding at the time of recovery. Members of the local community assisted the teams by guiding them to possible search areas. The body has been handed over to the police and will later be handed over to the family members.
