Bomb kills boy, critically wounds father in Manipur

A four-year-old boy was on Saturday killed and his father critically injured after a bomb went off at a village in Manipur’s Noney district.
The tragic incident occurred at Taolingpung (Namkaolong part-II) village under Khoupum police station of Noney district on today morning, around 8.30 am. The deceased boy was identified as Kalaingam Pamei alias Makurang Pamei. He died at the spot.
His father, Thuankungam Pame (40), who sustained critical injuries on both legs and other parts of the body, has been shifted to a hospital (Raj Medicity hospital) in Imphal after he was administered first aid at a local healthcare centre.
A police source said that the bomb, suspected to be a latohde, went off at the kitchen garden of the house where the father was trimming bushes with his son playing nearby.
Local reports said that while trimming the bushes, the father saw his son playing with a bomb like a it was a toy. He immediately snatched it from his son in a bid to throw it away. Unfortunately, he fell on the ground and the device went off, killing his son instantly and leaving him with severe injuries. The father was first rushed to Khoupum Primary Health Centre for treatment and later shifted to Imphal for further treatment.
The body of the deceased child has been sent to JNIMS, Imphal for necessary post-mortem after a case was registered at Khoupum police station for investigation.
In a separate incident, police recovered a hand grenade planted at a fuel station at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai in Imphal West district.
The police who safely recovered the hand grenade, found a warning note at the site, reportedly read as “last warning KCP (PWG).”
On the other hand, a 51-year-old man was found dead inside his car with bullet injuries in Kakching district on Friday evening.
The deceased was later identified as Chingakham Malemnganba Meitei, a resident of Tejpur Awang Leikai. The police quoting local sources said that he was allegedly shot by two unidentified individuals yesterday evening, around 6:30 pm at Keirak Awang Leikai under Kakching police station.
