Two books, “Naga Notes and Haiku for Me”, authored by Prof. Jungmayangla Longkumer, were released on June 14 at 535 Niu Kuda Inn, Nagarjan, Dimapur. The books, published as the 104th and 105th editions by PenThrill Publication House, were released by Chief Editor of Nagaland Post, Geoffrey Yaden, as the special guest.
Speaking at the event, Yaden praised Prof. Jungmayangla for her frank and honest writing style, noting her ability to blend serious themes with humor.
Recognizing her rich literary heritage, Yaden highlighted the contributions of her late parents to poetry and literature, acknowledging the lasting influence of her family on her creative journey. He expressed confidence that she would continue producing compelling works and entertained the audience with anecdotes about her impact in the literary world.
In his closing remarks, he wished her continued success in all her endeavors.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maongkala Longchar of Dimapur Govt. College presented a review of “Haiku for Me”, which explores themes of nature, feminine strength, and environmental loss through the traditional Japanese poetic form. The poems highlight solitude, hope, social hypocrisy, and ecological concerns, with tributes to Changki women potters and reflections on forgotten traditions.
Naga Notes is a collection of 15 anecdotal essays offering humorous yet insightful reflections on Naga identity, cultural traditions, and political satire. The book addresses themes of inheritance, community, resilience, and shared experiences through witty observations.
In her speech, Prof. Jungmayangla expressed gratitude to her supporters, including Geoffrey Yaden and her friend Sentila. She attributed her success to faith and timing, noting that publishing the books as she nears retirement is part of a meaningful journey.
The program included performances by Limasanen Aonok and a publisher’s note by PenThrill Publication House’s Vishu Rita Krocha.
The event was chaired by Prof. Malini B Sharma of SAS: NU, Medziphema Campus, with an invocation by Prof. Razouneinuo Zuyie.
