Acknowledging the longstanding claims and counter claims in areas along the Dimapur-Peren boundary belt between different communities, the state government said on Tuesday that such disputes have, at times, threatened to flare up, which could lead to the possibility of breakdown of law and order.
A home department communiqué stated that the government has always taken the matter with utmost seriousness and efforts have continued to be made to resolve the issues in an amicable manner so peace, tranquillity and understanding between the communities continued to prevail. Accordingly, it said the continued measures have been undertaken to maintain law and order from time to time. In the greater interest of peace and unity, the government appealed to the communities of both the districts of Peren and Dimapur to maintain peace and tranquillity and desist from taking any step that could aggravate the situation.
It further appealed to the leaders of both the communities to put in every effort to maintain peace, as only then, the government would be able to work towards a resolution of the dispute to the satisfaction of all.
