British Envoy Meets PM Modi, Commends First Responders in Ahmedabad Plane Crash

British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to working alongside India in investigating the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash.

During the meeting, PM Modi assessed ongoing relief efforts, while Cameron extended condolences and praised the tireless dedication of first responders. She emphasized that the UK stands ready to support affected British nationals and their families.

The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, bound for London’s Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, claiming 241 lives. Among the deceased were 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian national. The sole survivor, a British national of Indian origin, is receiving medical care.

India’s External Affairs Ministry is coordinating with affected countries for identification and repatriation efforts. Meanwhile, the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and the US Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) have offered technical assistance in the probe.

Cameron, who visited the crash site and hospital, assured continued British cooperation with Indian authorities, while the AAIB has deployed a specialized team to assist in the investigation. The UK’s Foreign Office has urged British nationals needing support to reach out via its 24/7 helpline.
