BSF, Chief (EC) visits India-B’desh border in Meghalaya

Special Director General, BSF (Eastern Command), Kolkata, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, visited bordering areas and Border Outposts (BOPs) along the India-Bangladesh border with Meghalaya.
A BSF spokesman said that during his four-day visit (October 13-16), Aggarwal reviewed the border security architecture and assessed operational preparedness with field commanders and troops deployed in forward areas.
During the visit, Aggarwal toured several Border Outposts (BOPs), halted overnight with troops in forward areas. He commended the high morale and professionalism of BSF personnel, and emphasized the importance of vigilance, coordination, and combat readiness to ensure a seamless border grid.
Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, of which 49.216 km is unfenced and has terrain difficult to patrol.
Inspector General BSF Meghalaya, O. P. Upadhyay presented a comprehensive operational briefing, outlining the dynamic security scenario along the international border, including challenges posed by rugged terrain, cross-border smuggling, infiltration attempts, and emerging transnational threats.
Aggarwal held meetings with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Chief Secretary Shakil P. Ahammed and discussed on joint security mechanisms, intelligence sharing, and inter-agency synergy to ensure foolproof border management.
The Special Director General, BSF also visited the Frontier Headquarters campus, reviewed administrative infrastructure, and directed continued efforts to maintain a crime-free, well-fortified, and operationally resilient international border.
