A district-level awareness-cum-campaign on the settlement of unclaimed deposits under the theme “Your Money, Your Right” was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, on October 13.
According to DIPR report, the initiative, spearheaded by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and State Bank of India (SBI), forms part of a nationwide drive launched by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, aimed at facilitating the rightful return of unclaimed financial assets.
Chairing the programme, EAC Dimapur Imtijungla Lemtur underscored the campaign’s objective to ensure that dormant deposits and investments are returned to their legitimate owners. She urged participants to disseminate the message within their communities to promote financial transparency and inclusion.
District Lead Manager Rongsenyangla, in her address, highlighted the growing concern over unclaimed deposits, which include forgotten accounts, matured fixed deposits, unclaimed insurance proceeds, and dividends. She emphasized the campaign’s framework built on the three pillars of Awareness, Accessibility, and Action (3 A’s), designed to simplify and streamline the process of reclaiming funds.
Rongsenyangla informed that unclaimed assets in India stood at Rs. 1.82 lakh crore as of August 31, 2025. Citizens were encouraged to proactively identify their unclaimed assets through the RBI’s dedicated portal https://Udhampur.rbi.org.in. She also called upon village councils, GBs, and community leaders to support the outreach efforts.
The campaign aligns with the Government of India’s broader financial literacy and inclusion initiatives, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), National Strategy for Financial Education (NSFE), National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE), and Financial Literacy Centres (FLCs).
The programme witnessed participation from representatives of Village Councils, Dimapur Urban Colony Chairman Federation, GBs Union, and GBs Association Dimapur.
