Can Youth launches 4th phase of CFR training

As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and emergency response, Can Youth, in partnership with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), and in collaboration with the office of the ADC, Medziphema, and the Medziphema Town Council, inaugurated the fourth phase of the Community First Responder (CFR) training programme at CT centre, Medziphema on Tuesday.
The event was graced by SDO (Civil), Medziphema, Selemla S. Sangtam, as the special guest, and head GB, Medziphema Town, Rokovitso Kuotsu as the guest of honour. A total of 60 trainees from nine wards of Medziphema town, Tsiepama village, Medziphema village, Pherima village, Kukidolong and piphema village participated in the training programme.
Addressing the gathering, Selemla emphasized the importance of immediate response during the “Golden Hour” following a disaster, underlining how timely intervention can save lives and reduce further damage. She further encouraged the trainees and advised them to make the best use of the training.
In his speech, Rokovitso Kuotsu said that this was the first time such training is conducted in the town and encouraged the trainees to make the best use of the opportunity.
Councillor of Ward-4, Medziphema Town, Kelenguno Zumu, said that the Community First Responder training was new in the town and termed it as an opportunity. She explained that this was also a part of the town’s development and hoped that people will actively participate in the training.
Founder and chief functionary, Can Youth, Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei, informed that NSDMA has officially certified Can Youth to conduct the training sessions.
He highlighted that the organization has witnessed strong participation in the first three phases of the programme and steadily expanding its reach across Dimapur and Chümoukedima. The initiative has been designed to equip youth and local residents to act as first responders during emergencies, with a particular emphasis on minimizing risks associated with both natural and human-induced disasters.
The training aims to provide participants with essential life-saving skills, beginning with simple interventions such as administering CPR and to build foundational knowledge for responding effectively during natural calamities or any other emergency situations.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Lushian P and invocation by CRC Loliba, Medziphema town, assistant pastor, Razouneizo Chalieu. Mughali from Chumoukedima shared her experience. A PPT was presented by Nuye Nyekha and the vote of thanks was delivered by facilitator & trainer, Can youth, Ato Lohe. Rapporteurs for the event were Elicheu and Songmo.
